It is with great sadness that we report the passing of John Barrett on Friday 26th June. The Sarum League was John’s brainchild. He was the league secretary for over 22 years from the league’s foundation until very recently when ill health meant he was unable to continue his work. The success of the League is entirely down to John’s energy and enthusiasm and the fact that many thousands of tennis players have participated in the league and enjoyed many hours of competitive tennis is a lasting tribute to John’s endeavours. He is a huge loss to the Sarum League and tennis and our thoughts are with his wife and family at this sad time. The funeral was Tuesday 7th July with around 200 people attending.

The 2009 Tournament took place for the "B" event only. 8 pairs took part with them playing 4 sets to determine the semi-finalists. The experienced Ulf Greder & Liz Robertson (Salisbury) lost 1-6 to the youthful Mike Hollingbery/Olivia Wilson (Victoria Park). Ray & Sue Hollingbery (Victoria Park) lost 2-6 to Geoff Naish & Judith Cutler in the other semi.
Geoff & Judith retained their title from 2001 beating Mike & Olivia for the second time on the day but 6-1 this time, to remain unbeaten on the day. Thanks to the Riverside tea ladies for a superb spread!
